According to Sacheon Coast Guard on the 9th, at around 10:40 PM that night, the captain of vessel A called the captain of the 2.93-ton coastal gillnet fishing vessel B.
When the captain of vessel B did not answer the phone, the captain of vessel A checked vessel B and found only a phone and catch inside the ship, with no person visible, and reported it to Sacheon Coast Guard at around 10:49 PM.
Upon receiving the missing person report, Sacheon Coast Guard arrived at the scene at around 11:15 PM and inspected the hull with a patrol ship but confirmed that the captain was not visible.
The Coast Guard deployed eight patrol vessels, one aircraft, four vessels from related agencies, and thirteen civilian vessels to search for the missing person in the nearby waters.
