KT CEO to Serve as Board Member for 2 Years Until 2024

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo has been reappointed as a board member of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), the highest decision-making body of global telecommunications operators. On the 8th, KT announced that CEO Koo Hyun-mo was reappointed as a GSMA board member. The board term is two years, and he will serve as a board member until 2024.
KT has maintained its status as a GSMA board member for 20 years since 2003. KT has participated in the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world's largest mobile exhibition, and has also been active as a leadership member of GSMA's technology, strategy, and policy groups. It has also participated in key activities such as artificial intelligence (AI) and climate change response.
During the GSMA board member reappointment process, KT was recognized for its proactive leadership activities within the GSMA leadership group, active participation in GSMA-hosted 'Mobile360' keynote speeches, and involvement in the 'Open Bus' group. KT's achievements in digital transformation through the establishment of a DigiCo-centered portfolio and its contributions to the global telecommunications industry were also acknowledged.
GSMA stated, "KT, as a representative telecommunications company of Korea, has demonstrated global leadership during the previous board term, leading the direction and innovation of the telecommunications industry," and evaluated that "KT's digital transformation based on the DigiCo strategy is a good precedent that the telecommunications industry should benchmark."
CEO Koo said, "I am pleased to be reappointed as a GSMA board member," and added, "I will do my best to set a long-term vision for the global telecommunications industry and lead the technical, strategic, and regulatory directions to enhance not only the development of Korea's telecommunications industry but also its global status."

Meanwhile, CEO Koo is also serving as a broadband committee member of the Broadband Commission jointly organized by ITU and UNESCO. KT plans to pursue global initiatives through activities in the two major associations leading the global wired and wireless telecommunications industry, GSMA and the ITU Broadband Commission.
