On the morning of the 7th, at the National Assembly Emergency Response Committee meeting, Jeong Jin-seok, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, said, "Whenever a major incident occurs, the Democratic Party launches a regime resignation movement as if the timing is perfect. What did they do to prevent recurrence when they were in power?" He added, "It is the duty of the National Assembly and political circles to prepare measures to prevent recurrence after the mourning period ends and the full facts of the incident are revealed."
Jeong further warned the Democratic Party, saying, "Stop the petty politics of igniting public anger and using it as a shield to carry out regime resignation movements immediately."
He also criticized, "The Democratic Party, which seeks to remove the president chosen by the people’s precious votes within just five months of the term, is treating the people like fools. They completely tied the hands and feet of the prosecution with 'Prosecutorial Reform' and now, saying they do not trust the police investigation, demand a state audit. What truth can be revealed through a state audit that has no investigative authority?"
Jeong pointed out, "On the evening of the 29th of last month, when the Itaewon accident occurred, a rally urging regime resignation was held in Gwanghwamun. According to the media, 81 buses from the Isimminsim group were mobilized, and the Democratic Party also chartered buses to mobilize participants. The police riot squad was deployed to maintain order, and the Itaewon tragedy occurred." He added, "The representative of Isimminsim served as the Standing Director of the Citizen Communication Headquarters in Lee Jae-myung’s presidential campaign. Is the Democratic Party a party specialized in regime resignation movements?"
Meanwhile, the People Power Party raised their voices for a 'thorough fact-finding investigation.' Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said, "Instead of wasting time and budget on political strife over fact-finding investigations after the Itaewon tragedy, we should focus on measures to prevent recurrence and work hard to establish a recurrence prevention system." He continued, "As the public’s awareness has matured, the National Assembly should also review any flaws in the fact-finding investigations and recurrence prevention measures it has led so far, and this time focus on recurrence prevention measures to avoid repeating such failures."

However, concrete discussions about the accountability of responsible persons have not been easily raised. After the Emergency Response Committee meeting, when Jeong met with reporters and was asked about the Democratic Party’s call for holding the National Police Agency Commissioner or the Minister of the Interior and Safety accountable, he responded, "President Yoon Seok-yeol clearly stated at this morning’s National Safety System Inspection Meeting that a thorough fact-finding investigation will be conducted and accountability will be pursued based on the results, as reported," drawing a line on the issue.
