[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] The National Tax Service (NTS) announced on the 7th that it jointly held the 2nd Korea-Latin America Digital Tax Administration Forum with the Inter-American Development Bank, attended by over 50 participants including tax commissioners from five Latin American countries and senior officials from 15 countries, until the 10th.
This forum was organized with the purpose of sharing Korea's electronic tax administration know-how with Latin American countries and establishing a cooperative framework between the two regions. The theme of the forum is "Digitalization of Tax Administration." Each session discussed topics such as ▲crises and opportunities in tax administration in the post-pandemic era ▲Hometax and electronic tax invoices ▲application of digital technologies for tax administration modernization ▲taxpayer information management and digital security management. Additionally, Latin American officials are scheduled to visit tax offices in Seoul.
In his opening remarks, Kim Chang-ki, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, explained, "The digitalization of tax administration has become a major topic for tax authorities worldwide following the COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "As the transition to a contactless economy and digital innovation accelerates, digital tax administration capabilities have become increasingly important."
He continued, "Since launching the integrated national tax system in 1997, Korea has accumulated 25 years of experience in electronic tax administration," and stated, "The Korean National Tax Service can be an important partner in advancing electronic tax administration in Latin America."
Commissioner Kim particularly proposed, "This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and 15 Latin American countries. Let us strengthen the cooperative relationship between the Korean National Tax Service and Latin American tax authorities and work together to resolve tax difficulties such as double taxation for companies operating locally."
