Gokseong Seomjingang Astronomical Observatory to Host Public Viewing Event for Total Lunar Eclipse on the 8th
Total Lunar Eclipse Occurs as the Moon is Completely Covered by Earth's Umbra
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jongseon] Jeonnam Gokseong-gun announced that it will hold a public observation event of the total lunar eclipse, a rare astronomical phenomenon in November, at the Gokseong Seomjingang Astronomical Observatory on the 8th.
According to Gokseong-gun, a total lunar eclipse, where the moon is completely covered by the Earth's umbra, is expected to occur on November 8.
At 18:08, a partial eclipse will begin as the moon is partially covered by the Earth's shadow.
Then, from 19:16, the total eclipse will start as the moon fully enters the Earth's shadow.
The maximum eclipse is expected to be visible at 19:59, and the total eclipse phase will end at 20:41.
Afterwards, the partial eclipse will resume, and the entire eclipse process will conclude at 22:57.
At the Gokseong Seomjingang Astronomical Observatory's public observation event, various programs such as astronomy lectures, moon photography, and distribution of celestial bromides will be held.
Although observation on the day of the event starts around 7 PM, it is recommended to arrive at the observatory by around 6:30 PM to receive prior education or guidance.
Also, since this observation event will be held outdoors, visitors should pay attention to dressing warmly and check the weather conditions before participating.
An observatory official said, "The next total lunar eclipse can only be seen in September 2025, three years from now. Do not miss this opportunity and create unforgettable memories through observing this rare astronomical phenomenon."
