Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Hwang Ju-ho) announced on the 4th that it will start a fuel cell power generation project to supply heat to the Ulju-type smart farm complex glass greenhouses in Ulju-gun, Ulsan.
On the same day, the two organizations signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of the Ulju-type Smart Farm Complex Fuel Cell Power Generation Project" at Ulju-gun Office, attended by Jang Pil-ho, Head of KHNP's New Business Division, and Lee Soon-geol, Ulju-gun Governor.
These organizations plan to cooperate mutually to implement the first domestic model of heat supply to smart farms using fuel cells.
Ulju-gun is developing the "Ulju-type Smart Farm Complex" in the Seosaeng-myeon area, and KHNP plans to supply heat generated from fuel cells to the glass greenhouses within the complex.
Utilizing the heat from fuel cells is expected to reduce heating costs, which account for 40% of greenhouse operating expenses, thereby contributing to the reduction of operating costs for the smart farm complex.
Jang Pil-ho, Head of KHNP's New Business Division, said, "We will actively utilize KHNP's experience and know-how in fuel cell convergence projects to ensure the successful establishment of a business model linking smart farms and fuel cells."
