"'Rising Sun Flag is a War Crime Flag' Seokyoungdeok Informs Navies of 13 Countries Participating in Japan's Fleet Review"
Sent Email to Participating Countries of the 70th Anniversary JMSDF Fleet Review
“Japanese Government Officially Recognizes ‘Jieikan-ki = Rising Sun Flag’”
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University announced on the 6th that he sent emails to the navies of 13 countries (excluding Korea and Japan) participating in the international fleet review event held in Japan, informing them that the Rising Sun Flag is a war crime flag.
On the 4th, Professor Seo posted on his Instagram, explaining, "The email contained information that the 'Self-Defense Ship Flag' currently flown on Japan's Self-Defense Force ships is the Rising Sun Flag, which symbolizes past imperialism and militarism, and is a 'war crime flag' with the same meaning as Germany's swastika."
He emphasized that the Japanese government officially acknowledges that the Rising Sun Flag and the Self-Defense Ship Flag are the same. He said, "In the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' promotional materials on the Rising Sun Flag, it is introduced along with a photo of the flag flown on Self-Defense Force ships, stating, 'According to the Enforcement Order of the Self-Defense Forces Act enacted in 1954, the Maritime Self-Defense Force's Self-Defense Ship Flag uses the Rising Sun design.' Thus, the Japanese government officially recognizes that 'Self-Defense Ship Flag = Rising Sun Flag.'
Professor Seo stated, "Japan has continuously engaged in thoughtless acts that blatantly use the Rising Sun Flag, reminding Asians of the horrors of war," and added, "I simply wanted to properly inform the navies of the participating countries, who may not yet know the truth about the Rising Sun Flag, of its historical facts through this fleet review."
He also said, "Now we must prepare for the Qatar World Cup," emphasizing, "Just as the Rising Sun Flag cheering photos and Rising Sun Flag patterns in the official theme song music video that appeared on FIFA's official social media during the last Russia World Cup were removed, let's all join forces again this time."
