This is the largest stroke registry worldwide that classifies patients by cause based only on those verified through brain imaging.
CRCS-K was initiated to develop specific and standardized clinical guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of stroke. Currently, it is operated with support from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's National Institute of Health, and researchers from a total of 19 hospitals, including Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, have registered over 100,000 stroke patients over 14 years of effort.
CRCS-K not only registers patients verified by stroke specialists analyzing brain imaging results according to stroke onset causes but also conducts follow-up observations for at least one year for most discharged patients. Due to these factors, the data reliability and quality are very high, resulting in the publication of over 160 SCI papers, and the registry has been utilized in stroke treatment guidelines both domestically and internationally.
Professor Bae, the principal investigator, said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the dedicated efforts of researchers at each institution and to the patients who agreed to register in the registry, enabling us to recruit 100,000 stroke patients," adding, "We will continue to do our best in research utilizing CRCS-K so that the efforts of researchers and patients are not in vain."
