Kyobo Education Foundation Selects 2022 Kyobo Education Award Winners Including Teacher Oh Seung-hoon of Jangseong Middle School
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The Kyobo Education Foundation announced on the 31st that it has selected the winners in four categories for the 2022 (24th) Kyobo Education Awards.
This year’s Kyobo Education Award winners are ▲Grand Prize in the True Person Development category: Teacher Oh Seung-hoon of Jangseong Middle School ▲Grand Prize in the Creative Talent Development category: Teacher Moon Young-ho of Chungnam Mechanical Technical High School ▲Grand Prize in the Lifelong Education category: Narakhanal of the Democratic Citizenship Education Center (Director Kim Dong-gyu) ▲Grand Prize in the Future Education Content category: Teacher Ok Hyo-jin of Busan Songsu Elementary School. The Special Award was given to Kim Young-sik, Director of Seoul Eastern Detention Center.
Teacher Oh Seung-hoon, who won the Grand Prize in the True Person Development category, has led education linking learning and life as well as emotional support through drama education, cultural and artistic experiences, labor education, and meal delivery to elderly living alone for students wandering due to wounds and pain.
Teacher Moon Young-ho, awarded the Grand Prize in the Creative Talent Development category, has developed educational content and curricula for nearly 30 years to enhance students’ creativity.
Narakhanal of the Democratic Citizenship Education Center, selected as the Grand Prize winner in the Lifelong Education category, has worked with citizens to develop various teaching materials including book publications.
The class currency activity program developed by Teacher Ok Hyo-jin, the Grand Prize winner in the Future Education Content category, is a comprehensive socio-economic education content that allows students to learn about everyday economics such as savings and insurance, as well as the roles of government, the National Assembly, and courts through experiential activities. It is evaluated as presenting new possibilities for school economic and financial education.
Kim Young-sik, who received the Special Award, has devoted himself to holistic education for inmates through various programs such as improving correctional facility environments, character education for punitive inmates, empathy for victims (bereaved families), responsibility programs (Sycamore Tree), and inmate family camps.

The ‘2022 Kyobo Education Awards’ ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the 10th of next month at the Convention Hall on the 23rd floor of the Kyobo Life Insurance Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Each grand prize winner will receive a prize of 30 million won and a plaque, and the special award recipient will receive a prize of 15 million won and a plaque.
