Hot Place Seongsu-dong Cultural Arts Meet at 'Seongdong Design Week' Opening

Jung-gu Hosts '2022 Euljiro Design Week'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (District Mayor Jung Won-oh) will operate a Design Week to experience Seongsu-dong culture from November 3 to 5 near Ttukdo Market and Seongsu Station.
Now in its 7th year, this year's 'Seongdong Design Week' is themed 'Meet Me in Seongsu,' designed to fully showcase the unique charm of Seongsu-dong, where Newtro culture stands out.
On the first day, the 3rd, exhibition and experience classes such as making flower pot covers, gemstone soaps, and gel muffin candles will be held around Ttukdo Market. Additionally, at 'Art Up Seoul Seongdong,' an exhibition space operated for Seongdong-gu artists, an exhibition featuring works by 15 resident artists will be held.
A variety of foods, essential to the event, are also prepared. Festival-exclusive lunchboxes linked with Ttukdo Market merchants will be sold to enhance the flavor when eaten together. These lunchboxes, composed of menus proudly offered by Ttukdo Market's famous eateries, are also included in the experience classes.
These diverse experiences can be reserved online after paying the participation fee via the 'Apply' link on the Seongdong Design Week Instagram (sddweek).
On the last day, the 5th, a handmade goods flea market featuring traditional leather crafts and fashion clothing from Seongsu-dong will be held. Busking performances enjoyable for everyone will continue, along with a food market composed of famous, traditionally rich Ttukdo Market eateries.
Meanwhile, on the 4th and 5th, the 'Choo Choo Market' will be held at the Seongsu Shoe Theme Park. Excellent handmade shoes and leather products presented by 15 specialized handmade shoe companies from Seongsu-dong will be exhibited and sold, and one-day classes conducted directly by leather craft trainees will also be available.
Furthermore, at Seongsu Station's 'Seongsu Industrial Culture Complex Theme Space,' the 'Hello, Seongdong Festival' will take place, gathering social economy enterprises and fair trade products in one place, providing an opportunity to participate in ethical consumption.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "This festival is a place to 'design' Seongsu-dong together with Seongsu-dong artists, merchants, and local residents, allowing them to enjoy the unique local culture." He added, "Since this is the first face-to-face event in three years, I hope many residents fully enjoy this festival."
Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-sung) will hold the '2022 Euljiro Design Week with Book&Living Fair,' where the distinctive industries of Euljiro such as lighting and printing can be seen at a glance, from November 3 to 5 at Eulji Twin Tower.
The event opens a venue for emerging designers, artists, and distributors to interact, building a platform to activate everything from unique brand development to product mass production and sales. Participatory showroom exhibitions (special exhibitions and market exhibitions), networking conferences, live commerce, and side events are prepared.
The opening ceremony will be held on November 3 at 6 p.m. in the common hall on B2 of Eulji Twin Tower, gathering about 100 small business owners, designers, printing companies, and independent publishing authors. Attendees will watch a video introducing urban industries and then tour the exhibition halls on B1 and B2.
In the special exhibition hall, new works by eight lighting and furniture designer teams and books by about 40 new authors produced through independent publishing printing education will be exhibited and promoted.
In the market exhibition hall, live commerce selling lighting and furniture products distributed in Euljiro in real time will be conducted. Each company will introduce and discount their self-produced products to widely promote Euljiro's brands.
Individual booths for independent publishing authors will also be operated. Independent publishing books will be exhibited and sold, and meetings between authors and readers will take place.
A 'Networking Conference,' a meeting place for honest industry stories from current publishing and living industry workers (Yang Da-sol, Kim Byung-sun, Lee Jung-eun, Kevin Park) and emerging authors and designers, will also be held. Active independent bookstore operators, lighting designers, and interior edit shop operators can gain business tips at the 'Publisher Talk.'
Side events such as one-day classes for visitors will also be held. Various programs including ▲Euljiro Tour (visiting Euljiro landmarks, Euljiro Printing Alley Tour Printing Road) ▲Startup Interior Course ▲Silkscreen Eco Bag Making ▲My Own Diffuser Making ▲Tufting (making coasters) ▲Macrame (crafting using rattan vines) will be operated by prior registration.
