[On Site] Wonhyo-ro Multipurpose Gymnasium Where 46 Victims of Itaewon Tragedy Are Laid to Rest
[Asia Economy reporters Seong Giho and Jo Seongpil] On the night of the 29th, amid the crowd crush disaster that occurred in the Itaewon-dong area of Yongsan-gu, Seoul, ahead of Halloween, resulting in over 100 deaths, the 46 bodies pronounced dead at the scene were all moved to the multipurpose gymnasium in Wonhyo-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
At 3:30 a.m. on the 30th, the gymnasium was visited by police, firefighters, and public officials entering one after another. Forensic investigators and disaster safety officials also entered. Access to the gymnasium is strictly controlled. The entrance is blocked and IDs are checked, with no entry allowed for the general public. Even families of the missing cannot enter without identity verification. Although reporters are gathering, filming inside is prohibited.
An official at the scene said, "Coroners have entered, and identity verification work will be in full swing starting the morning of the 30th." A family member of a missing person met at the site said, "They are contacting individuals once identities are confirmed." One family broke down crying, saying they received a call from the hospital funeral hall.

Aside from the 46 bodies, the remaining 74 were transported to various hospitals across Seoul, including Soonchunhyang University Hospital, National Medical Center, Ewha Mokdong Hospital, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and Chung-Ang University Hospital.
