Buhari, Nigerian President: "Han, a fantastic country... Floods are better than droughts"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 26th, President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Muhammadu Buhari, the President of Nigeria, who visited Korea, to offer condolences for the record-breaking flood damage and reaffirmed the South Korean government's commitment to promoting exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
During the summit held at the Yongsan Presidential Office building in the afternoon, President Yoon said, "I am confident that the economic and cultural capabilities will contribute even more to the exchange and cooperation between our two countries."
President Buhari visited Korea for the first time in 10 years to attend the 'World Bio Summit 2022,' co-hosted by the Korean government and the World Health Organization (WHO).
President Yoon said, "It was a pleasure to see you yesterday at the World Bio Summit event, and again today. I sincerely welcome you once more for visiting Korea as the President of Nigeria after 10 years."
He continued, "Recently, Nigeria experienced record-breaking floods for the first time in 10 years, causing many casualties. On behalf of our people, I extend my condolences to the victims and their families and wish for a swift recovery to normal life."
President Yoon also stated, "Since establishing diplomatic relations 42 years ago, Nigeria and our country have developed a friendly cooperative relationship in various fields. Nigeria has the largest economy among African countries and is also a cultural powerhouse producing the most films."
President Buhari responded to President Yoon's invitation by saying, "I sincerely thank you. Coming here, I have been deeply impressed by what a fantastic country this is."
President Buhari added, "I also appreciate your condolences regarding the floods. As you know, Nigeria borders the Sahara Desert and the Atlantic Ocean, so we experience various natural disasters."
