Korean Air to Change Flight Attendant Title to 'Flight Attendant'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Korean Air is integrating the titles of cabin crew members, which have been separated by gender since the company's founding, for the first time. The titles Steward and Stewardess, which have been used for over 50 years, will disappear.
According to the industry on the 26th, Korean Air has decided to unify the English titles of cabin crew members at the employee level of grade 5 and below, including interns, from Steward (male crew) and Stewardess (female crew) to "Flight Attendant." This will be applied starting next month on the 1st.
Meanwhile, the English titles for crew members at grade 4 and above have not been gender-specific. Grade 4 is Assistant Purser (AP, equivalent to Deputy Manager), grade 3 is Purser (PS, Manager level), grade 2 is Senior Purser (SP, Deputy General Manager level), and grade 1 and above is Chief Purser (CP, General Manager level).
