Gwangju Seo-gu to Host 'Yangdong Geonmaek Festival' on the 29th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim I-gang) announced on the 26th that the ‘2022 Yangdong Dried Seafood and Beer Festival’ will be held on the 29th at the Yangdong Dried Seafood Market area.

This festival, hosted by Yangdong Dried Seafood Market, is held as part of the Small and Medium Venture Business Administration’s specialized market (cultural tourism type) development project, allowing families to experience the market and enjoy delicious food. In addition to various food and beer, a variety of cultural experience programs for children have also been prepared.

The experience events and side events start at 1 PM, followed by the opening ceremony at 2 PM. Afterwards, there will be performances including the Yangdong Merchant Singing Contest, violin, and vocal music.

At the experience booths, various activities such as the Dried Seafood Pirate Market (children’s flea market) for children, the Dried Seafood Life Art Contest, keyring coloring, tattoo experience, and a Halloween photo zone will be held.

In particular, the ‘Youth Battle’ club from Honam University’s Department of Food Service and Culinary Arts is participating in the festival, cooking and selling dried seafood cookies and various side dishes made from dried seafood, attracting attention.

Also, during the festival period, a recycling event will be held where collected recyclables brought to designated locations can be exchanged for volume-based waste bags, conveying a message about resource recycling and the environment.

Kim I-gang, Seo-gu District Mayor, said, “I hope that this festival will be an opportunity for Yangdong Traditional Market to transform from a simple shopping space into a cultural space with diverse sights and attractions.”

Meanwhile, Yangdong Dried Seafood Market has been recognized for its contribution to activating the origin labeling system through voluntary management of origin labeling and promoting fair trade order. This year, it was selected as an excellent market for the first time in Gwangju Metropolitan City at the 2022 Seafood Origin Labeling Excellent Market Contest hosted by the National Fisheries Products Quality Management Service.
