Held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19, this event is hosted by the Jeongeup Astronomy Research Association, the National Jeonbuk Meteorological Science Museum, and Hyesung (a club at Jeongju High School), and supported by Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Jeongeup Office of Education, Jeonju Meteorological Office, Jeongju High School, and Jeonbuk Science University (Department of Smart Information).
This festival offers a variety of astronomical science experiences where visitors can feel and experience the mysteries of the universe through observing the autumn night sky and constellations sparkling like jewels.
A special astronomy lecture will be given by Dr. Lee Tae-hyung, Korea's top amateur astronomy authority and the first Korean to discover asteroid 23880.
Additionally, a celestial observation photography contest designed to increase youth understanding and interest in astronomy will be held, with generous prizes and gifts including telescopes, expected to further enhance the festival atmosphere.
Lee Jeong-yeol, president of the Jeongeup Astronomy Research Association, said, "Due to worsening air pollution these days, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see stars in the city," and added, "We hope people visit the Jeonbuk Meteorological Science Museum to have the opportunity to directly observe various celestial bodies."
