Request for Support of Gyeongnam Local Projects Including Hydrogen Specialized Complex and Space Aviation Agency

On the 26th, Governor Park met with Minister Lee Chang-yang of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and Technology to inform them of provincial issues and request support and cooperation for projects.
On this day, Governor Park proposed to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy the following: ▲designation of a specialized minority cluster in Gyeongnam ▲establishment of a comprehensive support center for the nuclear power industry in Gyeongnam ▲national funding support for the special industrial crisis response area smooth landing support projects in Changwon, Tongyeong, Geoje, and Goseong ▲and the establishment of a provisional Defense Industry Parts Research Institute in Gyeongnam.
To the Ministry of Science and Technology, he requested support for ▲the prompt establishment of the Sacheon Aerospace Agency ▲the swift implementation of the space industry cluster project ▲the rebound project for elastic materials responding to core strategic industries ▲the construction of a metaverse for the machinery manufacturing industry based on 5G ▲and the creation of an AI-based autonomous manufacturing ecosystem.
He emphasized, “Gyeongnam, which is the second largest cluster of hydrogen companies nationwide and a hub covering the entire hydrogen cycle including production, storage, transportation, and utilization, is the optimal site to lead the hydrogen economy as a hydrogen-specialized cluster.”
He also stated, “A comprehensive support center is necessary to strengthen the nuclear power industry ecosystem and enhance competitiveness,” and “a specialized research institute must be established to support technology for small and medium defense companies and to localize materials and parts.”
He added, “The establishment of the Sacheon Aerospace Agency in Gyeongnam is a presidential pledge and a national agenda, so there is great hope that it will be realized soon,” and urged, “Please accelerate the progress, including the announcement of the aerospace agency establishment roadmap within this year.”
He also urged the confirmation of a specialized space industry cluster zone in the western Gyeongnam region, a hub for the aerospace industry, and the prioritization of the preliminary feasibility study.
Governor Park said, “Active interest and cooperation are needed for Gyeongnam’s key issues and projects that serve as national growth engines.”

In response, Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and Technology said, “We are putting much thought into following the model of NASA,” and “We will strive to prepare the roadmap for establishing the aerospace agency within this year.”
