NIS Official Cites "Personal Reasons"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Cho Sang-jun, Director of Planning and Coordination at the National Intelligence Service (NIS), has tendered his resignation.
An NIS official confirmed in a phone call with Asia Economy on the same day, "Director Cho has expressed his intention to resign due to personal reasons."
Accordingly, Director Cho is also expected not to attend the National Assembly Intelligence Committee's NIS audit scheduled for the day.
Since the exact reason for Director Cho's resignation has not been disclosed, it is anticipated that lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties will raise questions regarding the background of his resignation during the audit.

Director Cho, who previously served as Chief of the Criminal Division at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, is considered a close associate of President Yoon Seok-youl along with Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon. In June, he was appointed as the Director of Planning and Coordination, overseeing the overall management of the NIS.
