View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Hanwha Solutions Q CELLS division (hereinafter Hanwha Q CELLS) announced on the 26th that it will participate in the ‘2022 Korea Energy Show,’ the largest energy exhibition in Korea.
The Korea Energy Show, held for three days from the 2nd to the 4th at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do, is the largest energy exhibition in Korea, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Energy Agency. This year marks its 41st anniversary. About 300 companies are participating in this year’s Energy Show.
Hanwha Q CELLS will exhibit a new business portfolio suitable for the domestic market, including Hanwha Motive’s electric vehicle charging business, agrivoltaic modules, and BIPV, in addition to its high-quality solar modules recognized in major renewable energy markets such as the United States and Europe.
At the booth composed of six zones, visitors can see at a glance the process of producing clean energy through Hanwha Q CELLS’ solar modules and efficiently supplying that power through home energy systems and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
In the Commercial Module Zone, the highly popular ‘Q.PEAK DUO G11’ module is exhibited. The ‘Q.PEAK DUO series’ is a core product group that enabled Hanwha Q CELLS to achieve the number one market share in major energy markets such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Korea. Among them, the latest model G11 maximizes power generation efficiency by applying Hanwha Q CELLS’ proprietary cell manufacturing technology called ‘Quantum Duo Z technology.’
In the Next-Generation Module Zone, visitors can see a prototype module based on perovskite-silicon tandem cells (hereinafter tandem cells), which Hanwha Q CELLS is leading the industry in researching and developing. Tandem cells are made by stacking perovskite on top of conventional silicon solar cells. The perovskite layer on top absorbs short-wavelength light, and the silicon solar cell underneath absorbs additional long-wavelength light, achieving higher efficiency compared to conventional silicon solar cells. While the theoretical efficiency limit of silicon solar cells is about 29%, research institutions predict that the theoretical efficiency limit of tandem cells can reach up to 44%. Meanwhile, Hanwha Q CELLS succeeded in producing tandem cells with a maximum efficiency of 28.7% in a joint study with the Helmholtz Institute in Germany last March.

Recently, as the mandatory certification for zero-energy buildings to increase building energy self-sufficiency is being gradually expanded, the industry expects domestic demand for BIPV, which can produce clean energy from building exteriors, to increase. The nine-color prototype installed in the BIPV zone applies ceramic printing technology that fully fuses pigments onto glass, adding high durability and aesthetics suitable for building materials. Hanwha Q CELLS is focusing on developing mass-production products with a goal to launch in the second half of 2023.
In the Agrivoltaic Zone, agrivoltaic modules, which are attracting attention as a new source of income for farmers and a carbon-neutral energy source, are exhibited. Agrivoltaics combine farming and solar power generation by adjusting the size and spacing of modules so that the farmland beneath the power plant maintains an environment suitable for farming. Hanwha Q CELLS’ dedicated agrivoltaic modules have obtained eco-friendly high-durability certification for the first time in the industry, further enhancing environmental stability.
Visitors can also experience Hanwha Motive’s electric vehicle charging solutions, launched in May this year. The Hanwha Motive zone exhibits Hanwha Motive’s charging infrastructure with upgraded spatial design alongside Audi’s electric vehicle e-tron. Hanwha Motive provides comprehensive solutions including free consulting, installation, operation, and maintenance for customers wishing to install electric vehicle charging stations, delivering industry-leading service quality. Currently, Hanwha Motive operates charging stations at locations such as G-Tower in Guro-gu, Seoul, Janggyo Building, and Hanwha Resort, and plans to expand its business mainly to multi-family housing and commercial buildings.
In the Home Energy Solution Zone, visitors can see the home energy solution ‘Q.HOME CORE,’ equipped with ESS (Energy Storage System) and Hanwha Q CELLS’ high-durability premium inverter ‘Q.VOLT.’ Customers using Q.HOME CORE can efficiently manage home energy usage through the energy management platform COMMAND (Q.OMMAND). Currently, Q.HOME CORE is sold in markets such as the United States and Europe, where residential solar power markets are active.
