Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo, "Put Your Life on the Line for the Passage of the Integrated New Airport and Gunwi Incorporation Law"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, said on the 25th, "Daegu city employees must put their lives on the line to ensure the passage of the Special Act on the Integrated New Airport and the law on the incorporation of Gunwi County in this regular National Assembly session."
Daegu City decided on the 25th to fully respond to the National Assembly schedule, which will intensify from November with the processing of major bills and government budget proposals, starting with President Yoon Seok-yeol's policy speech to the National Assembly. To this end, Daegu City plans to hold a budget policy council on the morning of the 26th at 8 a.m. at the National Assembly Members' Office Building with local lawmakers, including Kim Yong-pan, Chairman of the Daegu City Party of the People Power Party, to seek future National Assembly response strategies.
The 400th regular National Assembly, which concluded the 21-day government audit, is expected to enter a full-scale legislative and budget session from the 25th, starting with the President's policy speech on next year's government budget proposal, until December 9.
Daegu City is determined to ensure the passage of the "Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport Special Act" and the "Gunwi County Incorporation Bill," which will be submitted to the plenary session next month and are key to laying the foundation for the next 50 years.
The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport Special Act aims to build a central airport in the central-southern region responsible for more than 25% of domestic air logistics. It was introduced on August 2 by 83 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties, with Representative Joo Ho-young of the People Power Party as the main proposer. The special act includes provisions for state-led construction funded by national funds, exemption from preliminary feasibility studies, and the construction of runways capable of medium- and long-distance flights.
For the successful construction of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport, the Gunwi incorporation bill must also pass the regular National Assembly session within this year. Although the bill was submitted to the National Assembly in January this year through political agreement between the two cities and provinces, it is currently pending in the Public Administration and Security Committee. If it passes the bill review subcommittee next month and is approved in the plenary session, the incorporation of Gunwi and the construction of the integrated new airport will finally get on track.
In addition, the policy proposal list includes the "Clean Water Highway Project," which mainly promotes state-led supply of raw water from Andong and Imha Dams, the "Daegu National Smart Technology Industrial Complex (2nd National Industrial Complex) Development," the "lifting of development restrictions on planned development sites such as former military facility sites," and the "passing of the preliminary feasibility study for the National Robot Test Field Project."
Daegu City also plans to respond strategically to the processing of the government budget proposal. The national budget for Daegu City reflected in next year's government budget proposal is a total of 3.7181 trillion won, an increase of 116.4 billion won compared to last year's final government proposal (3.6017 trillion won).
Daegu City plans to establish a "base camp" at the National Assembly during the review stage to ensure that projects not reflected or only partially reflected in the government proposal are included, and will jointly respond with local lawmakers' offices.

Mayor Hong Joon-pyo of Daegu emphasized, "The remaining National Assembly schedule this year, including the enactment of the Integrated New Airport Special Act, is expected to be a major turning point in laying the foundation for Daegu's future 50 years," adding, "We will focus on securing policies and policy budgets essential for Daegu's reconstruction and respond with full force alongside local lawmakers to repay the citizens' desire for 'Change Daegu.'"
