KakaoBank Establishes Emergency Response Special Inspection Team Directly Under CIO
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Kakao Bank, which is experiencing aftershocks from the KakaoTalk outage incident, is forming an Emergency Response Special Inspection Team.
According to Kakao Bank on the 25th, the Emergency Response Special Inspection Team is a newly established organization within the Crisis Situation Countermeasures Headquarters that helps rapid judgment and decision-making in disaster response. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will serve as the chairperson.
This organization is designed to respond quickly to various internal and external emergencies such as fires and disasters. The bank explained that IT experts at the team leader level within Kakao Bank participate to enhance expertise.
In addition to emergencies at Kakao Bank's data centers and apps, the team will also protect customers' assets and data perfectly in emergencies caused by errors in external linked services such as KakaoTalk, and will carry out activities to provide normal service.
Kakao Bank operates a three-pronged data center system to respond to various emergencies. The Seoul Sangam Center serves as the main data center, the Seongnam Center in Gyeonggi-do is the Disaster Recovery (DR) Center, and the Busan Gangseo Center is the backup center.
If an issue occurs at the Seoul Sangam data center, the Seongnam center in Gyeonggi-do takes over the baton and continues the service. Also, the backup center located in Busan is the first in the financial sector to replicate and store customers' financial transaction information in real time. According to Kakao Bank, even if problems occur simultaneously in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, customers' data will remain safely stored at the Busan backup center.
In addition, Kakao Bank conducts regular 'IT Crisis Response Drills' and 'Electronic Financial Accident Simulation Drills.' Based on various disaster scenarios such as heavy rain, floods, earthquakes, and fires, they conduct annual drills switching systems from the main data center in Seoul Sangam to the Yatap Disaster Recovery (DR) Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do.
