Naju Deputy Mayor Kang Young-gu Holds 'Eutteummaeul Making On-site Meeting'
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City in Jeonnam held an on-site meeting to inspect the Clean Jeonnam Prime Village Creation Project, a village improvement initiative led by residents.
According to the city on the 24th, the Prime Village Creation Project is a policy initiative aimed at improving the village environment led by village residents by 2025, under three main goals: ‘changing perceptions,’ ‘environmental cleanup,’ and ‘landscape improvement.’
Currently, the project is being implemented in 90 villages, of which 72 have completed distinctive landscape creation projects, and the remaining villages plan to finish their projects by next month.
The on-site meeting was chaired by Deputy Mayor Kang Young-gu, the project leader, who visited Nam-pyeong Village in Nampyeong-eup and Jeongryang Village in Ichang-dong along with officials in charge from each eup, myeon, and dong to review the project achievements and future directions for each village.
Nam-pyeong Village utilized a village open space to create a flowerpot resting area with greenery and relaxation throughout the four seasons, and installed outdoor lighting to add charm to the village landscape during nighttime hours.
Jeongryang Village, surrounded like a folding screen by the Yeongsan River in front and Gayasan Mountain at the back, aimed to create a pleasant village image by establishing flower beds, cleaning the entrance to the Gayasan Mountain access road, and painting murals.
After the on-site meetings at the two villages, Deputy Mayor Kang Young-gu said, “It is necessary to link the Prime Village Project with similar village improvement projects currently being promoted by the city itself and to discover village income-generating projects to maximize synergy.”
He added, “I hope that institutions, organizations, and residents will all work together on follow-up management so that the clean environment and beautiful landscape can be maintained continuously, not just as a one-time effort.”
Meanwhile, the city won the grand prize in the ‘2021 Clean Jeonnam Prime Village Creation Project City and County Comprehensive Evaluation’ last year, securing a prize money of 50 million won.
The city plans to select and support an additional 45 villages for the third phase of the project, which will conclude in 2023.
