View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hanjin and Korea Expressway Corporation signed a business agreement last September to prevent drowsy driving accidents among delivery and logistics workers, and have been conducting a pilot project for the ‘Smart Drowsy Driving Response System’ since the 24th.
The ‘Smart Drowsy Driving Response System’ is a system that detects drivers’ drowsiness in real time and enables early response. A drowsiness detection device installed in front of the driver’s seat automatically detects and judges drowsiness signs such as eye closure through video-based monitoring and provides an alarm to prevent drowsiness. It transmits the driver’s drowsiness data via a dedicated application. The application receiving the data offers real-time drowsiness prevention management functions in stages, such as guiding rest areas and drowsiness calls.
The pilot project period runs until December, during which Hanjin will provide 70 cargo vehicles for use in the pilot. They will support smooth installation of the devices inside the vehicles and conduct driver surveys for analysis of the pilot project.
Korea Expressway Corporation will provide 70 devices free of charge to Hanjin and will be responsible for educating the cargo vehicle drivers on how to use the devices and application, as well as installing the devices. They also plan to analyze the effectiveness of the information collected during the pilot project period.
Both companies expect this pilot project to help prevent traffic accidents caused by drowsy driving. After analyzing the accident prevention effects, they plan to improve the system by reflecting user feedback and consider expanding the project to cover more vehicles.
