Lotte Homeshopping Opens Icheon Logistics Center... Introduces State-of-the-Art Automation System
Robot-Based Automation System... Building Smart Fulfillment
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lotte Homeshopping announced on the 23rd that it held an opening ceremony for the 'Icheon Logistics Center,' which features state-of-the-art logistics infrastructure.
Lotte Homeshopping relocated its logistics center, which had been operating in Gunpo since 2013, to Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. This move aims to provide faster and more diverse delivery services through space and work efficiency improvements due to increased delivery volume. The single-story structure, designed with a One-Line system and covering 8,134 pyeong, increased storage capacity by more than 40% through space optimization.
As the first in the home shopping industry, it introduced autonomous driving-based robots and established automated facilities such as unmanned transport vehicles, robot arm-based 'depalletizers,' and 'auto-labelers.' The entire shipping line operates automatically, enabling the shipment of 8,000 boxes per hour, which is more than three times the previous volume, while processing time has been reduced by about half. The work efficiency of operators who repeatedly performed high-intensity tasks has also greatly improved.
In the automation process, incoming products are moved by unmanned forklifts, and the depalletizer places them on the shipping line. The auto-labeler automatically recognizes the products and attaches shipping labels, moving them along the conveyor to the shipping area. Then, scanners read the shipping label information and sort the products by region or courier company, moving them to the final terminal shipping line. In the future, Lotte Homeshopping plans to establish separate spaces considering product characteristics and gradually expand the proportion of automated systems to develop a smart fulfillment system and expand its specialized logistics system.
