[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] On the 21st (local time), Kim Seung-gyeom, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), who is visiting the United States, visited the U.S. Strategic Command, which operates the U.S. "Nuclear Triad," and discussed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways to strengthen strategic cooperation with Strategic Commander Charles Richard, the JCS announced on the 22nd.
General Paul LaCamera, Commander of the Combined Forces Command, accompanied Chairman Kim on the visit to the Strategic Command. South Korea and the U.S. shared concerns over the severe security situation on the Korean Peninsula, including North Korea's increased nuclear and missile capabilities, the legalization of its nuclear force policy, and claims for tactical nuclear unit training, emphasizing that any nuclear threat from North Korea will face the alliance's resolute and overwhelming response.
In particular, Commander Richard introduced the Strategic Command's readiness posture, explaining that they maintain a readiness posture capable of effectively responding to any nuclear threat from North Korea, and reiterated that in case of emergency, all U.S. extended deterrence capabilities will be provided to South Korea, the JCS reported.

South Korea and the U.S. agreed to actively promote the timely and coordinated deployment and operation of strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula, bilateral exercises and training, and expansion of strategic dialogues. Both sides also highly evaluated the information sharing and cooperative exchange system developed between the Korean JCS and the U.S. Strategic Command and agreed to continue cooperating to effectively deter North Korea's nuclear threats in the future.
