Ministry of Justice "Jeju Electronic Travel Authorization System Implemented... 50-Day Entry Denial Rate Reduction Effect"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The Ministry of Justice announced that the implementation of the Jeju Island Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) system has resulted in a decrease in the rate of denied entries over approximately 50 days.
K-ETA is a system that requires nationals from 112 countries eligible for visa-free entry to South Korea to input personal and travel-related information and obtain travel authorization via the K-ETA website or mobile app before departure.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 21st, the rate of denied entries due to attempts at indirect entry for illegal employment purposes dropped from 38.4% in August to 3.2% in September after the system was implemented. In October, it further decreased to 1.5%.
Previously, when the government introduced K-ETA in September last year, Jeju Island was excluded considering its status as an international tourist city. However, as it was exploited as a route for illegal entry by foreigners, K-ETA was introduced in Jeju Island as well on the 1st of last month.
