Earlier, Chairman Jeong posted on his Facebook, "Lee Jae-myung, withdraw the hostage strategy." He criticized, "Leader Lee chose a hostage strategy with Democratic Party lawmakers to avoid his judicial risks. It reminds me of Cao Cao's linked rings strategy (連環計), which ties all ships together to prevent his own ship from shaking," urging Democratic Party lawmakers to return to the National Assembly audit and Lee to cooperate with investigations.
In this process, Chairman Jeong mentioned Seol’s remarks, saying, "Didn’t Democratic Party member Seol Hoon say yesterday? That all Democratic Party people knew this would happen." This quoted Seol’s statement on the 20th on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' where he said, "I had foreseen this situation."
In the broadcast that day, when asked by the host whether he thought the "Lee Jae-myung risk was becoming a reality," Seol answered accordingly and added, "Regardless of the facts, I thought the prosecution would not just leave it alone. I thought they would attack the entire party," revealing that he had discouraged Lee from running for party leader.
On the 21st, Seol posted on his Facebook, "Jeong Jin-seok, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, who tries to use my sincere concern for the Democratic Party as a pretext for opposition party oppression, must apologize," expressing his opposition to Chairman Jeong’s distortion of his remarks.
He said, "The situation I was concerned about was political retaliation and political oppression against the Democratic Party. Isn’t that concern becoming a reality now?" and criticized, "People Power Party should not cover up the petty and despicable opposition party oppression by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration with diversion tactics." He also condemned the prosecution’s attempt to search the Democratic Party headquarters and argued, "If this is the fairness that the Yoon Seok-yeol administration talks about, then investigate Mrs. Kim Geon-hee, who admitted to falsifying her academic background, immediately."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has defined the prosecution’s investigation into Lee’s presidential campaign fund allegations as "political oppression" and is mounting an all-out response. On the morning of the 21st, Lee held an emergency press conference, stating, "The substantive truth of the case is being distorted, and only the noisy sound of political oppression and retaliatory investigation against the party is heard," and proposed the appointment of a special prosecutor for the allegations against himself and President Yoon.
