Public Institutions and Financial Companies Use Shinhan Certificate for Identity Verification During Sign-Up and Password Recovery
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Shinhan Bank announced on the 21st that it has been officially designated as an identity verification agency by the Korea Communications Commission. Accordingly, Shinhan Bank will be able to provide identity verification services through the Shinhan Certificate.
An identity verification agency is an institution that develops and provides alternative means of verifying identity without using resident registration numbers, such as certificates, i-PINs, and mobile phones. It is only finally designated after passing the Korea Communications Commission’s review, meeting the qualifications and requirements for the stability and reliability of identity verification services.
Customers holding the Shinhan Certificate can easily verify their identity through the password, pattern, or biometric information of the Shinhan Certificate within Shinhan SOL, instead of complicated procedures such as SMS verification when signing up or logging in to various public institution online services and financial services.
Shinhan Bank plans to build an authentication service using the Shinhan Certificate in Shinhan SOL and provide identity verification services around the first quarter of next year. It also plans to expand the authentication business so that it can be used as a group integrated certificate in the apps of subsidiaries within Shinhan Financial Group.

A Shinhan Bank official said, "Following our selection as the first electronic signature authentication operator in the financial sector, we have been designated as an identity verification agency on our first attempt, and we will further accelerate the Shinhan Certificate business." He added, "We will strive to expand various partnerships so that many customers can conveniently use the Shinhan Certificate, including providing authentication services to minors under the age of 14, which existing authentication operators do not offer."
