[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] SPC Chairman Heo Young-in recently apologized regarding the SPL safety accident.
On the 21st, Chairman Heo stated at the 'Public Apology and Measures to Prevent Recurrence' held at the SPC headquarters in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, that the company will strengthen safety management and establish a culture of respect and consideration for employees.
Chairman Heo said, "I deeply feel responsible for this accident and humbly accept the stern criticism and remarks from the public. Especially, I sincerely apologize for the company’s failure to first understand and consider the shock and sorrow of the employees who worked closely with the deceased." He added, "To prevent such incidents from happening again, we will invest a total of 100 billion KRW to significantly strengthen the safety management system across the entire group."
To this end, a company-wide safety inspection will be conducted. Starting today, multiple external professional organizations certified by the Ministry of Employment and Labor will carry out an 'industrial safety inspection' not only at SPL, where the accident occurred, but also at all group business sites. Based on the inspection results, comprehensive safety management improvement measures will be implemented.
An independent 'Safety Management Committee' consisting of external experts with professional expertise and on-site employees will be formed to strengthen external supervision and advisory functions regarding industrial safety. The company plans to expand dedicated industrial safety and health personnel and reorganize the organization to enhance company-wide safety management capabilities.
Chairman Heo said, "I will always put employees first and devote myself to creating a safe workplace." He added, "Through painstaking efforts, we will not only strengthen safety management but also establish a culture of humane respect and consideration to become a trusted company."
