This event is the largest academic event of the Korean Nuclear Society, with approximately 1,500 members participating from the 19th to the 21st. It concludes with 15 workshops, the presentation of 455 research papers, and an industrial inspection of Changwon’s representative nuclear power companies, Doosan Enerbility and PK Valve.
On the 20th, the 55th Annual General Meeting was held in the convention hall with about 400 members in attendance.
The city is currently negotiating an agreement to continuously host events for the next five years to promote the linkage and development of the local nuclear power industry with the Korean Nuclear Society, and plans to continue various cooperative activities such as information sharing on major nuclear issues and technical consultations.
In his opening remarks at the general meeting, Baek Won-pil, President of the Korean Nuclear Society, emphasized, “The revival of nuclear power will not happen automatically. It is not about returning to the pre-nuclear phase-out era, but about strengthening the nuclear technology base and public support base much more firmly than before. The wisdom, passion, courage, and actions of nuclear professionals centered on the members of the Korean Nuclear Society are urgently needed.”
In his congratulatory speech, Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “The Changwon nuclear power industry, which was pushed to the brink of collapse due to the nuclear phase-out policy, is now facing an opportunity for revival under the new government’s policy to abolish the nuclear phase-out and restore the nuclear industry ecosystem. The opening of the Nuclear Power Company Rapid Support Center and the additional designation of nuclear power in the energy industry convergence complex are laying the groundwork for expanded government support for Changwon’s nuclear companies.”
