Gyeongsang National University Computer Science Department Wins Excellence Award at Metaverse Developer Competition
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Professor Lee Su-won’s team from the Department of Computer Science, College of Natural Sciences, Gyeongsang National University received the Excellence Award at the ‘2022 Metaverse Developer Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korea Radio Promotion Association and the Korea Metaverse Industry Association.
The competition is held to expand the base of the metaverse industry by discovering creative talents through the development of services and content in 16 categories (designated and free tasks) by students or the general public interested in the metaverse.
The Gyeongsang National University Computer Science team, led by Professor Lee Su-won and composed of four undergraduates?Kim Sang-hyun, Kim Seong-won, Son Eom-ji, and Jeong Bo-geon?developed ‘Covid Hunter,’ an augmented reality defense game wishing for the end of COVID-19, and won the Korea Metaverse Industry Association President’s Award at this competition.
‘Covid Hunter’ is an augmented reality defense game set on a diorama that is a scaled-down reproduction of the real world. The diorama was created by faithfully reproducing the surroundings of the Gyeongsang National University Computer Science Building using a 3D printer.

Professor Lee said, “I hope Covid Hunter delivers a message of hope that we can overcome difficult times well,” and added, “We will strive to spread the concept of augmented reality by exhibiting various augmented reality contents we have developed, including Covid Hunter, so that people can experience them.”
