Fuel Cell Experts from 13 Countries Discuss International Standardization Strategy in Seoul
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Leading countries in the fuel cell technology sector that generates electrical energy using hydrogen, including the United States, Germany, and Japan, will gather in Seoul to discuss international standardization strategies.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's National Institute of Technology and Standards announced that it will hold the 'Fuel Cell Technical Committee (IEC/TC 105)' meeting over two days, on the 20th and 21st, at a hotel near Seoul.
More than 40 participants from 13 countries, including South Korea, the United States (participating remotely), Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and China, will attend the meeting.
The attendees plan to reach an agreement on evaluation methods for fuel cell stacks to ensure fair and clear performance comparisons of hydrogen fuel cell products. A fuel cell stack is a device that produces electricity by reacting hydrogen with air.
South Korea will present two new international standard proposals: performance evaluation methods for hydrogen-utilizing combined heat and power fuel cells and for used fuel cell stacks.
The evaluation method for hydrogen-utilizing combined heat and power fuel cells assesses the performance of next-generation fuel cells that produce not only electricity, heating, and cooling but also purified hydrogen.
The performance evaluation method for used fuel cell stacks is a standard proposal to assess the residual value of fuel cell stacks recovered from hydrogen vehicles and building fuel cells, facilitating their reuse.
