SCMP: Wang Shouji to be promoted from 5th to 3rd in National Power Ranking
Recognized as one of the architects of Xi Jinping's China Dream
[Asia Economy Senior Reporter Cho Young-shin] Wang Huning, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, is reportedly nominated as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 19th that Secretary Wang, ranked 5th in China's national power hierarchy, is expected to be appointed as the Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, ranked 3rd.
SCMP previously reported that among the seven members of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, four may retire and half of the Central Committee members will be replaced.
SCMP stated that Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee (72 years old), and Han Zheng (68), Vice Premier, will retire after the closing of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, following the "7 up 8 down (七上八下)" principle, which means those aged 67 remain in office while those aged 68 retire.
Secretary Wang (67 years old), who is expected to be nominated as Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, is a scholar by background. SCMP explained that before rising to China's top leadership in 2017, he led the Central Policy Research Office, the Communist Party of China's think tank.
SCMP added that he is one of the architects of Xi Jinping's "Chinese Dream (Zhongguo Meng, 中國夢)." Xi Jinping is the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (also President of the State and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, hereafter referred to as President).
