South Korea-US Joint Chiefs of Staff Discuss Response Measures to North Korean Provocations

View original image[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Kim Seung-gyeom, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is visiting the United States to meet with Mark A. Milley, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.
On the 18th, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that Chairman Kim will attend the 47th Korea-U.S. Military Committee Meeting (MCM) held in Washington D.C. on the morning of the 19th (local time, 11 p.m. Seoul time on the 19th). The meeting will discuss the evaluation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait and regional security, strengthening the combined defense posture, and the promotion of wartime operational control transfer based on conditions. Chairman Kim's schedule will continue until the 23rd.
On the morning of the 20th (10:30 p.m. Seoul time on the 20th), he will participate in the Korea-U.S.-Japan Joint Chiefs of Staff Meeting (Tri-CHOD, Trilateral Chiefs Of Defense) to discuss the security environment on the Korean Peninsula, multilateral cooperation and training, and regional security challenges.
Following that, on the 21st, he is scheduled to visit the U.S. Space Command to discuss ways to enhance the U.S. extended deterrence execution capability and strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, as well as to expand strategic coordination and cooperation between the Korea-U.S. forces. The Korea-U.S.-Japan Trilateral Chiefs of Staff meetings have been held once or twice a year since 2010, either virtually or in person.

Earlier this year, on March 31, the three chiefs met at the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command at Camp Smith, Hawaii, to assess North Korea's activities such as intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launches and the security situation in Northeast Asia, and to discuss cooperation measures to respond to North Korean provocations.
