Yun Byeong-tae, Mayor of Naju, Visits Agricultural Produce Harvest Site... Listens to Difficulties
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Yoon Byung-tae, mayor of Naju, Jeollanam-do, visited rice and pear farms in Naju, where weekend harvest work is in full swing, to encourage farmers who have reaped valuable fruits this year.
The city announced on the 17th that on the 15th, Mayor Yoon Byung-tae sequentially visited the pear farm of Choi Seong-seok in Wanggok-myeon and the rice farm of young farmer Lee Jae-young in Dasi-myeon.
On that day, Mayor Yoon personally participated in pear harvesting and combine harvesting work and listened to the farmers' difficulties in farming.
He also inspected the orchard cultivation status of Choi Seong-seok's farm, which has adhered to farming methods without using growth promoters to maintain the quality of Naju pears, and cheered the passion of the returning young farmer Lee Jae-young, who created his own brand called ‘Hwanggeummiso’ with his parents and cultivates glutinous rice and specialty rice.
These farms complained about difficulties such as rice prices plummeting to the lowest level in 45 years, securing sales channels and prices for agricultural products due to the opening of imported agricultural products.
They also requested securing sales channels for agricultural products as holiday gifts for city hall, government offices, and public institutions, maintenance of drainage channels and pumps to prepare for frequent flooding, and continuous interest and support for young farmers.
In response, Mayor Yoon promised to promote city policies for income and management stabilization of farms, such as ‘rice management stabilization measures fund,’ ‘price increase of mineral fertilizers,’ ‘tax-free agricultural machinery fuel,’ and ‘purchase of medium and small pears and fallen pears,’ and to prepare various measures to secure sales channels for agricultural products in city hall, government offices, and public institutions.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “I thank the farmers who have silently supported the roots of agriculture, a key industry, and reaped valuable fruits this year despite difficult conditions such as rising production costs of agricultural products, rural labor shortages, and opening of agricultural product imports,” and added, “We will seek various measures to brand Naju pears as premium products, support the settlement of returning young farmers, and secure sales channels for our agricultural products in the metropolitan area and overseas exports.”
