SK Siltron, 3% Greenhouse Gas Reduction... "Goal to Become Eco-Friendly Wafer Manufacturer"
SK Siltron Publishes '2022 Sustainability Management Report'
Includes Concrete Execution Results Such as Green Premium Purchasing and Direct Reduction
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Ye-ju] SK Siltron announced on the 17th that it has published the 2022 Sustainability Management Report (Better Future with SK Siltron), which contains its commitment to realizing a sustainable future.
In last year's first report, SK Siltron declared ESG management goals such as Net Zero (greenhouse gas zero) by 2040 and ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) 2030. This year, in addition to declaring goals, the report includes the specific implementation status in each field at the execution stage.
According to this report, SK Siltron has set a goal to achieve Net Zero early by 2040, 10 years ahead of the national target, and is implementing carbon neutrality. It is aiming to be an eco-friendly wafer manufacturer under the slogan "Lowest-Carbon Wafer Supplier." Currently, it produces eco-friendly premium wafers by reducing energy consumption and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the wafer manufacturing process.
SK Siltron stated in the report that it reduced about 14,000 tons, approximately 3% of the greenhouse gases emitted from wafer manufacturing last year. By switching general electricity to renewable energy through green premium purchases and reducing direct energy usage, it lowered greenhouse gas emissions.
In this year's report, SK Siltron proactively introduced the double materiality assessment, which is scheduled for mandatory application next year. Unlike the existing materiality assessment that identifies social and environmental issues affecting stakeholders, this evaluation method comprehensively considers the financial impact of external environments on the company. It derives and analyzes ESG issues from a comprehensive perspective considering the mutual relationship between the company and the external environment, and addresses related impact results together.
