Naju City Hosts Academy Inviting Kim Byung-won, Former Chairman of NongHyup Central Association

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Jeonnam Naju City (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 13th that it held the ‘2nd Bigger Naju Academy’ on the 12th at the city hall’s main conference room, inviting former NongHyup Central Association Chairman Kim Byung-won as a lecturer.

About 200 people attended the lecture, including Mayor Yoon Byung-tae, city hall officials, heads and executives of local NongHyup cooperatives, and citizens.

Former NongHyup Central Association Chairman Kim Byung-won emphasized the importance of inner charm, the driving force for realizing dreams and goals, and the identity, capabilities, and attitudes that public officials should possess under the theme ‘Charm is Competitiveness.’

In particular, he incorporated his rich experience and knowledge in agriculture and rural areas accumulated over 42 years at NongHyup, people he met during his tenure as chairman, and memorable episodes into the lecture theme, delighting the audience throughout the lecture with well-matured humor.

Regarding the lecture theme of charm, former Chairman Kim said, “Inner charm, which captivates people’s hearts, is more important than external charm,” and “The most important aspect of inner charm is sociality, which includes patience, clear self-purpose, and wisdom.”

As conditions for realizing individual dreams and goals as public officials, he mentioned ‘earnestness’ (bucket list), ‘firm belief’ (self-reflection prophecy), and ‘imagination’ (self-suggestion).

Former Chairman Kim said, “Even after losing twice in elections, I endlessly engraved in my heart the imagination and realization of being elected as chairman of the NongHyup Central Association,” adding, “If you set what you absolutely want to do before you die, have a firm belief in yourself, and imagine it, your dream will eventually come true.”

Regarding the attitudes and capabilities public officials should have, he emphasized ‘listening.’

Former Chairman Kim advised, “The position of a leader is not to dominate but to be lower and closer, listening attentively to the voices of citizens.”

He continued, “Just as the reason for NongHyup’s existence is farmers, the reason and identity of Naju City are its 120,000 citizens,” and concluded the lecture by saying, “I hope the city hall, where citizens can always visit comfortably, and the new changes in the 8th elected term will make public officials who citizens find charming.”

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “I hope former Chairman Kim’s lecture, equipped with professional knowledge and experience dedicated to the development of agriculture and rural areas for 42 years, will be a valuable foundation for Naju’s sustainable agricultural development and public administration with kindness and a spirit of service.”

Meanwhile, the city plans to hold the 3rd ‘Bigger Naju Academy’ at the city hall’s main conference room on the 2nd of next month.
