Jung In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Holds 100-Day Press Briefing for the 8th Term of Elected Government
Making "Citizens' Well-being and Happiness" the Top Priority in Municipal Administration
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jeonnam Gwangyang City held a press briefing on the 13th at the city hall situation room to share the direction of city administration on the 100th day since the launch of the 8th term of the elected mayor.
Through the briefing, Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, “The new era of Gwangyang in the 8th term of the elected mayor will prioritize ‘citizens’ well-being and happiness’ as the top value in city administration and will open the ‘Era of Impression, Warm Gwangyang.’”
The major achievements in the 100 days of the 8th term include “the reflection of 540.2 billion KRW in the 2023 national budget, selection of 42.8 billion KRW for 25 city-awarded and contest projects such as the restoration project of the Hapgang urban ecological axis in Gwangyang-eup, attraction of a lithium hydroxide production plant and cathode material and precursor raw material plants, designation as a preliminary cultural city, winning two grand prizes in the 2022 National Local Government Job Awards, receiving the Korea SNS Award, certification as an excellent administrative institution for labor-management culture among public officials, and working with the city council to support emergency disaster living expenses, the first pledge, to stabilize citizens’ lives and revitalize the local economy.”
As the future direction for city administration to build a ‘Sustainable Global Future City Gwangyang,’ the following were emphasized: ▲ Realizing a warm community where not a single citizen is left out ▲ Achieving a great transformation of Gwangyang’s economy by revitalizing people’s livelihoods and fostering new growth industries ▲ Developing tourism as a strategic industry by utilizing the natural environment of mountains, sea, and rivers ▲ Establishing a customized welfare platform for each life cycle that satisfies all citizens ▲ Creating a cultured, artistic, and sports city with high dignity and vitality ▲ Realizing a livable rural area and vibrant agriculture ▲ Building a youth-friendly city where young people can pursue their dreams and hopes ▲ Creating a sustainable human city by expanding green infrastructure.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, “For the well-being and happiness of citizens, we will break away from customs and precedents, work creatively, and show the ‘truly changed administration’ by working more proactively and kindly.”
He concluded the briefing by saying, “We will never lose our original intention, always communicate with citizens, prioritize their opinions, and create ‘Gwangyang shining in the world! Sustainable Global Future City Gwangyang!’”
