The next 60 years will be led by 'E (Environmentally Friendly)' taking responsibility for the carbon emitted so far, 'S (Social Responsibility)' practicing human-centered management, and 'G (Governance)' building a partnership-based collaborative relationship."
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won declared a new vision called 'All Time Net Zero,' which goes beyond net zero, on the occasion of SK Innovation's 60th anniversary. This is a declaration that after achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, SK Innovation will offset all the carbon it has emitted by its 100th anniversary in 2062.
According to SK Innovation on the 14th, Chairman Chey attended the 60th anniversary ceremony held at the International Conference Hall of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, the day before, and recalled, "The wisdom to overcome crises seems to result in turning adversity into opportunity," adding, "We have accumulated the power to turn bad things into good things and have been able to continue growing for 60 years."
October 13, 1962, marks the birth of Korea's first oil refining company, Korea Oil Corporation. The event was attended by key executives including Chairman Chey, SK Group Senior Vice Chairman Chey Jae-won, Chairman Cho Dae-sik of the SK SUPEX Council, and Vice Chairman Kim Jun of SK Innovation. Former executives were also present.
Chairman Chey defined SK Innovation's future identity as a "global green energy company leading future eco-friendly energy" and said, "The wisdom to overcome crises seems to result in turning adversity into opportunity," adding, "We have accumulated the power to turn bad things into good things and have been able to continue growing for 60 years."
He continued, "(SK Innovation) has chosen 'Green,' which represents the environment, as its theme to become a 'better company' regarding carbon issues, moving beyond the red and white colors of the oil refining era." Earlier, Chairman Chey also toured the 60th anniversary exhibition room next to the event hall before the ceremony began.
On the same day, SK Innovation announced its new vision, 'All Time Net Zero.' SK Innovation's net carbon emissions have been accumulating positively (+), but after achieving net zero by 2050, it plans to offset net carbon emissions into the negative (-) and make the total carbon emissions since its founding in 1962 zero by its 100th anniversary in 2062.
