[2022 National Audit] National Tax Service Commissioner "Will Review Taxation on One-Person Media and YouTubers"
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] The National Tax Service (NTS) announced that it will look into whether taxation on one-person media creators and high-earning YouTubers is being properly enforced.
At the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee audit, NTS Commissioner Kim Chang-gi responded to a related question from Assemblyman Han Byung-do of the Democratic Party of Korea, stating, "We are reviewing the blind spots in taxation for one-person media and YouTubers."
Commissioner Kim added, "We are also conducting ongoing verification of high-earning YouTubers."
Regarding concerns that some YouTubers generate income by receiving subscriber donations through personal accounts, he explained, "It is difficult to verify transaction details for personal remittances such as subscriber donations. We comprehensively assess the situation by compiling data from our own monitoring and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)."
