Gwangju City Councilor Park Sugi Proposes Measures to Strengthen Research Capabilities at Gwangju-Jeonnam Institute
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Assembly member Park Sugi of Gwangju Metropolitan Council proposed measures to strengthen the research capabilities of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute as a think tank that designs the future and develops policies for Gwangju and Jeonnam.
On the 11th, during a city administration inquiry, Assembly member Park questioned the current status of win-win cooperation research conducted after the integration of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute, the reflection of Gwangju city policies, the achievements of future research responding to Gwangju in 2030 and 2050, and the actual reflection of such future research in Gwangju city policies.
Along with this, he requested to strengthen the policy reflection of related research.
He also pointed out that although the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute has focused on regional development, urban planning, industrial economy, cultural tourism, and social welfare fields, it has neglected education policy and legislative research fields, urging for balance and diversity in research areas such as increasingly important education (cooperation) policies and local legislative research.
Meanwhile, regarding Mayor Kang Ki-jung’s election pledge statement, “The mayor will become the control tower of education together with the superintendent of education and district mayors,” he demanded the establishment of an Education Policy Research Center that professionally studies Gwangju’s education (cooperation) policies and the hiring of specialized personnel to promptly carry out related research starting this year.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute, maintaining a neutral and objective perspective, has many policy research tasks to be conducted annually, such as citizen awareness surveys on the legislative activities of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, future agendas of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, citizen perception surveys and analyses of Gwangju Metropolitan Council ordinances, and policy research tasks by each standing committee and special committee that the council requires.
