As the first nationwide drone-related event in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, following the successful first tournament held last year, this year's second tournament is being prepared with even more substantial arrangements.
The tournament will be operated in three leagues: 8 teams each in Division 1 and Division 2, and 24 teams in Division 3, with a total of 40 drone soccer teams from across the country participating in the matches.
On the first day of the competition, the 15th, the opening ceremony will be held along with various drone performances and matches for Division 1 and 2 teams, while Division 3 matches will take place on the 16th.
Awards will be given to the teams placing first through fourth in each league, with the Buk-gu Mayor's plaque and prize money awarded.
In addition, various experience booths and promotional halls will be operated, including drone drive circuit experiences, 3:3 battle drones, drone coding, and drone making. In conjunction with the Art Science Festival hosted by the National Science Museum, a drone academy event will be held to create a venue for drone leisure sports.
Mayor Moon In said, "I hope drone enthusiasts, who have been restrained due to COVID-19, will showcase their skills to the fullest and create joyful memories at this tournament," adding, "We will continue to develop Buk-gu as a drone-specialized city through fostering the drone industry and spreading leisure culture."
Meanwhile, Buk-gu is focusing on normalizing drone culture by establishing the Buk-gu Drone Flight Practice Field in the Gwangju Citizens' Forest area, becoming the first special/metropolitan city nationwide to designate a "Drone National Certification Continuous Practical Test Center," and being the only district in the Honam region designated as a "Drone Park." It is also actively supporting the demonstration of excellent technologies and commercialization models of local drone companies through designation as a drone special free zone and selection as a drone demonstration city.
