Prosecutors Indict Icheon City Urban Planning Committee Member for Bribery in 'Station Area Development Project'
50 Million Won Bribe Under the Pretext of Development Project... Promise to Receive Additional 20% of 'Development Profits'
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] A member of the Icheon City Urban Planning Committee who accepted bribes in exchange for assisting urban development projects has been brought to trial.
The Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Yeoju Branch (Chief Prosecutor Lee Hyung-kwan) announced on the 11th that they have arrested and indicted Mr. A, a member of the Urban Planning Committee and a university professor, and Mr. B, a licensed real estate agent, on charges of bribery and bribery promises, while developer Mr. C, who gave the bribes, was indicted without detention.
Mr. A and Mr. B are accused of receiving 50 million won from Mr. C between May and June 2019 under the pretext of assisting Mr. C’s development project related to the Icheon Station area development project, and promising an additional 50 million won plus 20% of future development profits.
Additionally, Mr. A and Mr. B are charged with receiving bribes from Mr. C and promising further bribes, while concealing Mr. A’s involvement by receiving 50 million won into an account under Mr. B’s name and preparing a false service contract in Mr. B’s name.
The prosecution explained that they uncovered a public-private collusion scandal in which an urban planning committee member, who is involved in the essential procedure of urban development?the Urban Planning Committee review?colluded with a local businessman to receive large bribes, promised to receive an additional 20% of development profits, and the developer attempted to proceed with the development project unfairly through this arrangement.
