[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Sampyo Group has embarked on developing eco-friendly technologies for carbon neutrality in the construction basic materials sector. On the 11th, Sampyo Group announced that it signed a 'Business Agreement for ESG and Resource Circulation System Establishment' with the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), the largest testing and certification institution in Korea.
Sampyo Group is the leading domestic company in the construction basic materials sector used in housing and civil engineering works, such as cement, aggregates, and ready-mixed concrete. KCL is an affiliated institution of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's National Institute of Technology and Standards, securing competitiveness not only in existing construction, lifestyle, and environmental fields but also in new growth areas such as batteries and biotechnology.
Sampyo and KCL will jointly develop eco-friendly technologies for carbon neutrality in the construction basic materials sector. Through this, they plan to contribute to Sampyo Group's goal of achieving zero carbon emissions across the entire value chain by 2050. They also agreed to jointly promote the establishment of a recycling system for used battery recycling in the future. This cooperation between a domestic building materials company and a testing and certification institution is the first in the industry.
Moon Jong-gu, Head of Management at Sampyo, said, "Resource circulation is both a responsibility given to us and an opportunity for new industrial development," adding, "We will create synergy through the intersection of Sampyo Group's focused construction basic materials business and resource circulation business with KCL."
