At this meeting, Mayor Hong and Minister Bang discussed the issues of the existing MOU related to clear water win-win cooperation and agreed to actively seek ways to improve it.
Currently, Daegu City's secured water volume is 790,000 tons, but considering the increase in population after the development projects such as the relocation of K-2 and military bases, the required water volume for Daegu City was assumed to be 1 million tons per day.
To secure this, two plans are being simultaneously reviewed: securing 300,000 tons from Unmun Dam, 700,000 tons from Andong and Imha Dams through additional pipeline construction, 400,000 tons from Maegok Water Purification Plant, 300,000 tons from Unmun Dam, and 300,000 tons from Andong and Imha Dams through pipeline expansion.
Mayor Hong emphasized the existing government drinking water policy, stating, “We must make a fundamental shift from the current method of drawing surface water from rivers to constructing drinking water dams and drawing water from dam reservoirs in the long term.”
Mayor Hong also actively expressed the need for a long-term recycled water policy, and Minister Bang expressed agreement with this position in the long term.
