Utilizing AI Robot 'AlphaMini'... Supporting Programs like Cognitive Training Games and Letter Writing for Seniors
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Digital Foundation announced on the 5th that it will pilot the ‘Robot-Based Emotional Care Service’ to help alleviate depression and isolation among the elderly for five months from July to November.
The ‘Robot-Based Emotional Care Service’ is part of the Seoul Digital Foundation’s initiative to accompany digital vulnerable groups. Utilizing the AI robot ‘Alpha Mini,’ the program offers various activities such as singing, quizzes, and games to help relieve depression and isolation in old age.
The Seoul Digital Foundation plans to pilot the service in two autonomous districts, Jongno-gu and Gangbuk-gu, until November, and analyze the collected data after the service ends to verify its effectiveness. The pilot sites include a total of 11 locations: Jongno-gu Senior Welfare Center and three other sites, and Ui Daycare Center in Gangbuk-gu along with six other locations.
The ‘Robot-Based Emotional Care Service’ consists of various programs designed to engage and immerse the elderly, including ▲autobiography writing ▲singing ▲OX quizzes ▲health exercises ▲cognitive training games.
An elderly participant at a daycare center who experienced the service said that although they usually avoided conversations due to mobility difficulties and depression, they felt comfortable talking to the robot like a friend, showing very positive reactions from the elderly on site.
After completing the pilot operation in November, the Seoul Digital Foundation plans to analyze the data collected by the robot to verify the emotional changes and effects on the elderly during service use and publish a report.
