Busan Office of Education Develops and Distributes 'Digital-Based Class Stepping Stone'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education recently developed teaching and learning materials called ‘Digital-Based Class Stepstone’ to support blended classrooms and smart device-utilized classroom lessons, and distributed them to elementary, middle, and high schools in the area.
The materials are designed to support subject-centered lessons for elementary, middle, and high schools, and this is the second set developed following the four types of ‘Digital-Based Classroom Lesson Guidebooks’ distributed in February, which included versions for Android OS, iPad OS, Chrome OS, and Windows OS.
In July, the Busan Office of Education formed a development committee consisting of 78 teachers: 22 elementary school teachers, 33 middle school teachers, and 23 high school teachers.
They developed materials covering six elementary school subjects?Korean, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Science, and Practical Arts?and ten middle and high school subjects?Korean, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Science, Information, Technology and Home Economics, Music, Art, and Physical Education.
The materials provide detailed examples and methods by subject to help teachers unfamiliar with digital-based classroom lessons actively utilize edutech as a teaching tool.
They also offer edutech lesson tips by school level and subject, as well as teaching and learning process plans incorporating edutech, allowing for diverse use in school settings.
The Busan Office of Education plans to operate a ‘Second Half School Visit Smart Device Utilization Capacity Building Training’ for elementary, middle, and high schools that wish to use the materials.

Han Jong-hwan, Director of the Future Talent Education Division at the Busan Office of Education, said, “The materials will greatly help in effectively operating digital-based classroom lessons using blended classrooms and learning smart devices,” adding, “We hope the materials will play a significant role in realizing student-centered classroom lessons.”
