Simmin, Imsil County Governor, Appointed Joint Vice Chairman of the Council of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads
[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Shim Min, the governor of Imsil County, Jeonbuk, has been appointed as the co-vice chairman of the Association of Mayors, Governors, and District Heads representing 226 basic local governments in South Korea.
The Association of Mayors, Governors, and District Heads of South Korea held a joint chairman meeting on the 28th at the Garden Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
At the meeting, chaired by Shim Min, the acting chairman and governor of Imsil County, the executive members including Jo Jaegu, the representative chairman (Mayor of Nam-gu, Daegu), and Seo Dongwook, the standing vice chairman (Mayor of Nam-gu, Ulsan), who will lead the first half of the 8th local government term, were appointed.
The term of the executives formed on this day will last until June 30, 2024.
Co-vice chairman Shim Min previously served as the deputy governor of Imsil County and is currently serving as the 6th, 7th, and 8th governor of Imsil County.
In particular, Shim, as an independent candidate, was elected for the third time as governor of Imsil County in the local elections held on June 1, making history as the first three-term governor in the local election history of Imsil County and the only independent three-term governor nationwide, attracting attention as a remarkable winner.
As the co-vice chairman of the Association of Mayors, Governors, and District Heads of South Korea, Governor Shim will represent Jeonbuk and express opinions on various issues linked with the central government.
He will also promote policy formulation and propose improvement directions to foster the sound development of local autonomy.
Additionally, he is expected to collaborate with the executives to respond to local joint issues such as countermeasures against local extinction and regional balanced development.
Co-vice chairman Shim Min said, “I feel a heavy responsibility in taking the position of co-vice chairman of an organization representing basic local governments in South Korea,” and added, “I will devote all my efforts to the mutual development of the region and the advancement of local autonomy, representing the 14 cities and counties of the Jeonbuk region.”
Meanwhile, on July 11, the Jeollabuk-do Mayors and Governors Association passed a resolution to elect Shim Min, governor of Imsil County, as the chairman of the association.
The Jeollabuk-do Mayors and Governors Association was established on August 1, 1996, and consists of 14 mayors and governors within Jeollabuk-do. It is an administrative consultative body operated to promote the sound development of local autonomy by exchanging information on joint local government issues, conducting research projects, and expressing opinions and proposals to central government departments regarding laws or national policies affecting local governments.
