View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 22nd that it will completely revamp the ‘U+ Smart Home’ app on the 26th to enhance convenience for customers using smart home services.
With this revamp, the U+ Smart Home app will feature ▲ editable main app screen ▲ one-click viewing of home CCTV footage ▲ improved control of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and faster main screen switching ▲ voice guidance for visually impaired users ▲ usage guide videos for each device, among other new functions.
First, LG Uplus redesigned the UI/UX to allow customers to freely edit the main screen of the U+ Smart Home app. While the existing app displayed information by listing each home IoT device, the revamped app allows users to edit the main screen by placing and resizing the key functions of devices wherever they want.
With customizable app configuration, customers can manage frequently used devices more easily and quickly. For example, a customer who mainly uses a home IoT mood light can register the mood light on the U+ Smart Home app’s main screen, enabling them to check and adjust the ON/OFF status and brightness of the light at a glance without any additional steps.
Home CCTV footage, a frequently used feature by U+ Smart Home app users, can now be viewed with one click on the app’s main screen. Previously, users had to navigate from the main screen to the detailed home CCTV screen to watch live footage, but in the revamped app, they can watch immediately via the ‘View Video’ button on the main screen. Additionally, improvements allow users to watch home CCTV footage seamlessly even while using other apps, enabling uninterrupted viewing while web surfing or messaging.
The overall app performance speed has also increased. The time taken to remotely control home IoT devices through the app is about 20% faster than before the revamp, and the speed of switching from device detail screens back to the main screen has improved by about 60%. LG Uplus plans to pursue further speed enhancements, including app startup speed, within this year.
The revamped U+ Smart Home app also introduces a new ‘Usage Tips’ menu to help customers fully utilize their home IoT devices. In the tips menu, users can check how to use the app or devices and watch ‘Self-Solution Guide Videos’ to resolve simple issues. Frequently asked questions are also easily accessible through images or videos.
Moreover, LG Uplus has introduced a ‘Voice Guidance’ feature for visually impaired customers, where detailed menu information is provided audibly through gestures such as finger touches on the app screen.
This app revamp was based on an analysis of actual usage patterns of U+ Smart Home customers. LG Uplus conducted a survey on app usage behavior before the revamp and found that customers tend to repeatedly use certain menus and prefer to have various information displayed on the main screen. LG Uplus expects that reflecting these customer characteristics in the revamp will increase app usage rates and improve customer satisfaction.
Yeom Sang-pil, Head of Home IoT Business at LG Uplus, said, “Through customer surveys, we revamped the overall UI and UX so that U+ Smart Home users can use the app and services more conveniently. We will continue to closely analyze customer usage patterns to develop the smart home app service in a customer-friendly way.”
