[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] LG CNS is launching 'Speaking Class,' an AI English learning app equipped with content from 71 volumes of elementary, middle, and high school English textbooks.

LG CNS announced on the 22nd that it will participate in the '2022 EduTech Korea Fair' held at COEX until the 24th, operating a Speaking Class experience booth. Visitors to the booth can try LG CNS's AI English learning apps, including Speaking Class and a multilingual version AI tutor.

Speaking Class is an AI English conversation learning app developed by LG CNS. It allows users to study English anytime and anywhere through their smartphones. The AI analyzes students' English pronunciation, speech speed, and answer similarity to measure their learning level on a five-step scale. Students can compare model answers with their own responses to improve accuracy through practice.

The strength of Speaking Class, according to the company, is that teachers can create their own English learning content. Most existing English education apps are designed to allow learning only from pre-provided content. LG CNS supports a teacher-oriented Speaking Class creation site. When a teacher inputs English dialogues, the AI automatically processes them into English learning content and reflects them in the Speaking Class app.

Speaking Class is loaded with content from 71 volumes of elementary, middle, and high school English textbooks. To achieve this, LG CNS signed content partnership agreements with seven publishers: Cheonjae Education, Donga Publishing, NE Neungyule, Daekyo, Visang Education, YBM, and MiraeN. Among the 105 English textbooks from these partners, 71 volumes suitable for conversation learning were selected, excluding those focused on reading comprehension and grammar.

LG CNS provides Speaking Class free of charge to 11 metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide. Starting with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in June last year, LG CNS has sequentially signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for 'AI-based foreign language conversation education service cooperation' with the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education, and others.

For teachers, if they register as Speaking Class members using their official integrated email or education office email, they can use the English textbook service free of charge. Students can use the service by entering a class code provided by their teacher or by being registered as English textbook service learners by their teacher within the Speaking Class app.

LG CNS has also obtained English education certification from the Korea Association of Teachers of English (KATE) for its AI tutor app service. LG CNS AI Tutor is the first AI-based English education program in Korea to receive KATE certification.

Meanwhile, LG CNS has conducted the digital transformation (DX) social contribution program 'AI Genius' for youth, providing IT education opportunities to 134 schools and over 14,000 students so far.

Hyun Shinkyun, Vice President and Head of LG CNS D&A Business Division, emphasized, "We will leverage DX capabilities to bridge educational gaps through AI customized learning and contribute to introducing digital innovation into the public education market."
