Lotte Property & Development announced on the 22nd that it will actively practice ESG management by publishing its first sustainability management report this year, becoming the first operator of supertall buildings in Korea to do so.
This report centers on the vision of being a "global ESG leading company contributing to eco-friendly cities and regional community development," and includes various ESG strategies and activities of Lotte World Tower, a representative sustainable building in Korea, and Lotte Property & Development.
Based on a materiality assessment of Lotte Property & Development obtained through surveys of over 250 internal and external stakeholders, nine major material issues were derived. Among these, the representative cases of Lotte Property & Development, "Lotte World Tower's eco-friendly energy facilities" and the "work-family balance support system," were organized into separate special pages.
Lotte World Tower is a representative sustainable building with eco-friendly facilities applied from the design stage. In 2017, it became the first building over 100 floors to receive the 'LEED Gold' certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's eco-friendly building certification system. Recognized for its contribution to energy efficiency and renewable energy production, it won the Grand Prize in the Energy Transition category at the '2022 Seoul Metropolitan Government Environmental Awards' last June.
Under the motto "The happiness of the family is the competitiveness of the company," Lotte Property & Development has also focused on family-friendly management to balance work and family life. It was recognized for operating various work-family balance systems such as family care leave and flexible working hours, and received the Iron Tower Industrial Medal at the '2022 Employment Equality Contribution Awards' last May.
The sustainability management report was published in both Korean and English and is available for viewing on the Lotte Property & Development website.
Meanwhile, on the 6th of this month, Lotte Property & Development also established the 'ESG Committee' under the Management Committee to deeply discuss major ESG management issues and implement them company-wide. The Lotte Property & Development ESG Committee plans to conduct all management decisions from an ESG perspective, fulfill social responsibilities, establish transparent governance, and strive to achieve sustainable growth.
Jae-don Ryu, CEO of Lotte Property & Development, said, "We will prioritize ESG throughout all management and business processes to become a 'must-environment company' leading the operation of green buildings," and added, "We will continue to actively communicate with stakeholders and become a trustworthy company with transparent governance."
